The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the suspicious death of a 47-year-old woman whom police believe was fatally shot.
Sheriff’s detectives were speaking Monday with a man who lives in the Long Grove home where the woman's body was discovered and was present at the time of the apparent shooting, Lake County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Sgt. Christopher Covelli said. The man has not been charged with a crime.
Investigators and evidence technicians processed the area Monday and recovered a pistol, as well as "evidence that a firearm had been discharged," Covelli said.
Neither the woman nor the man had valid Firearm Owner Identification cards, Covelli said.
Sheriff's deputies responded about 12:20 p.m. Monday to the single-family home in the 5400 block of North Tall Oaks Drive for a report of someone who was shot, according to the release.
Police did not say who notified them about the apparent shooting.
When officers arrived, they found the woman's body inside the home with "a significant injury," Covelli said.
There is no threat to the community while the investigation is ongoing, as the situation appears to be isolated and confined to the inside of the home, according to a news release the sheriff's department sent Monday evening.
An autopsy is being scheduled and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
