FREMONT TOWNSHIP – An 89-year-old Fox Lake woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash June 21 in Fremont Township, police said.
About 12:05 p.m. June 21, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Wilson Road and Route 60, Fremont Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. Deputies arrived and found two vehicles with heavy damage, according to a news release.
Preliminary investigation shows that a 2005 Dodge Neon, driven by an 89-year-old Fox Lake woman, was traveling south on Wilson Road. The driver stopped at the stop sign and tried to make a left turn onto eastbound Route 60. The driver turned into the path of a westbound 2018 Kia Forte driven by a 28-year-old Lake in the Hills man. There is no stop sign for traffic on Route 60. The driver of the Kia was unable to avoid striking the Dodge, and the front of the Kia struck the driver’s side of the Dodge.
The driver of the Dodge was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the Kia was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to Advocate Condell Medical Center. An autopsy is being scheduled for the driver of the Dodge. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
